Sunday, March 21st, marks one year since the first death in Toronto from COVID-19. Tragically, since then, more than 2,600 people have lost their lives in the city from the Corona virus. We also mourn the many victims from across Canada and around the world.
As Catholics, we lift up their names in prayer and ask God to raise them to the glory of Heaven. We also pray for their families and for their circle of friends. This has been a difficult time for so many people.
John Tory, Mayor of Toronto. invites all Torontonians to mark this anniversary by using the power of light. Residents are urged to turn on a porch light, a balcony light, or to place a light in a window on the evening of Sunday, March 21st. Be a light shining in the darkness. A remembrance of all who have died and a light of hope for the future.
