DAY OF PRAYER, FASTING AND WORKS OF CHARITY
Our Holy Father, Pope Francis, invites Catholics
to join believers of all religions this Thursday, May 14, for a special day of
prayer, fasting and works of charity. United In fraternal charity we will
beseech God to bring an end to the Coronavirus and to alleviate the suffering
of our brothers and sisters throughout the world.

PALM SUNDAY GREETING
Palm Sunday will be so
different for all of us this weekend! Even here at my convent, we
will not have a Palm Sunday Mass.
We will have a
meaningful prayer service and then all us nuns will gather in the dining room
to watch the livestream of the Palm Sunday Mass from St. Michael's
Cathedral Basilica, celebrated by Cardinal Collins.
Know that you are
remembered in our prayers every day here at Holy Name of Mary Convent!

Wishing you all continued good health and peace,
Sister Christina and her Felician Sisters in

SORRY - PALM BRANCH DISTIBUTION
CANCELLED
After consultation with a medical professional,
and heeding government warnings. we have decided to cancel our
Palm Sunday distribution of blessed branches. The danger of virus transmission
and the challenge to keep proper social distancing is just too great. Please
pass the word to neighbours, friends and fellow parishioners.
THE
SACRAMENT OF RECONCILIATION
The
ordinary way of obtaining forgiveness for sins is participating in integral
confession and absolution. Nevertheless, if a person is unable to meet with a
priest for the Sacrament during the current pandemic, it will suffice for the
moment to pray the Act of Contrition as best one can intending it truthfully,
and to commit to participating in the Sacrament of Reconciliation as soon as
possible when conditions allow. There will be no permission granted for General
Absolution.
ACT
OF CONTRITION (traditional)
O my God, I am heartily
sorry for having offended Thee, and I detest all my sins because of thy just
punishments, but most of all because they offend Thee, my God, who art all
good and deserving of all my love. I firmly resolve with the help of Thy grace
to sin no more and to avoid the near occasion of sin. Amen.
ACT
OF CONTRITION (alternate)
My God, I am sorry for my
sins with all my heart. In choosing to do wrong and failing to do good, I have
sinned against you whom I should love above all things. I firmly intend, with
your help, to do penance, to sin no more, and to avoid whatever leads me to
sin. Our Savior Jesus Christ suffered and died for us. In his name, my God,
have mercy.
ACT OF SPIRITUAL COMMUNION
During these difficult days, when Catholics are deprived of
Jesus in the Sunday Eucharist, we suggest a very traditional Catholic response
… Consider making an Act of Spiritual Communion. Join your hearts to the
Sacred Heart of Jesus in prayer. Choose from one of the set prayers listed
below.
An
Act of Spiritual Communion
My Jesus, I believe that you are present in the most Blessed Sacrament. I
love You above all things and I desire to receive You into my soul. Since I
cannot now receive You sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my heart.
I embrace You as if You were already there, and unite myself wholly to You.
Never permit me to be separated from You. Amen..
- Composed by St. Alphonsus Liguori in the 18th century
OR
Oh Jesus, I turn toward the holy tabernacle where You live hidden for
love of me. I love you, O my God. I cannot receive you in Holy Communion. Come,
nevertheless, and visit me with Your grace. Come spiritually into my heart.
Purify it. Sanctify it. Render it like unto Your own. Amen.
Lord, I am not worthy that Thou shouldst enter under my roof, but only
say the word and my soul shall be healed.
